Among these monuments are the well-known Shore Temple at Mamallapuram, Fort St George in Chennai built way back in 1644, and various temples in Kanchipuram. But, there are dozens of monuments that have been standing across our state for centuries now, with many unaware of their existence and the story behind them. This World Heritage Week (November 19-25), with an aim to shine a light on many such monuments, the state’s Department of Archaeology and the ASI are hosting a photo exhibition themed around the ‘Monuments of Tamil Nadu’.
To be unveiled by the state’s Minister for Tamil Language and Culture K Pandiarajan, the exhibition will be held in the premises of the picturesque Shore Temple in Mamallapuram on November 19 at 10 am. The exhibits will be open for public viewing from 9.30 am to 9 pm during the week. There will also be cultural programmes held at 6 pm every day during the week.
