The deceased B Ansar Basha of Chitlapakkam was an auto driver who was married and has two children aged 8 and 7. The couple got married about eight years ago, but Basha is said to have separated from his wife Parveen three years ago after which she has been living separately with the children.
Basha, who was staying at a rented house in Vinayakapuram, reportedly developed a relationship with one R Lakshmi in the locality. But Lakshmi’s elder son R Ajith alias ‘Periya’ Ajith (21) was opposed to this, said police, adding that Basha and Ajith had frequent quarrels over this.
Two years ago, Basha was arrested by Puzhal police for cutting off Ajith’s left ear. Last year, Ajith’s friends Chinna Ajith, Balaji, Santhosh and Ashwin were booked for attacking Basha with machetes.
On Monday, Basha had packed his auto near Red Hills road-school road junction in Kolathur around 11 pm and was talking to Lakshmi and his mother Mehbooba. A five-member gang reached the spot and hacked him with machetes in front of his mother. With severe injuries on the back of his head and face, Basha died on the spot and the gang fled the spot.
On information, Kolathur inspector reached the spot and sent Basha’s body to Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for post-mortem examination. Rajamangalam police registered a case and picked up five suspects including ‘Periya’ Ajith (21), M Ashwin (22), K Ashok (22) A Panneer Selvam (20) and J Santhosh (22), who are being interrogated.
