Accidents across the city, Mahabs claim 5 lives

Four men were killed in different accidents across the city, while a Vanigar Sangam functionary died after his bike rammed barricades near Mamallapuram.

In Vadapalani, a 52-year-old auto driver died on the spot and his passenger suffered injuries after his vehicle rammed a truck in the wee hours of Tuesday.


Ilango (50) from Vadapalani took one Arunachalam (25) on a trip. When the vehicle was on Jawaharlal Nehru Salai, the auto rammed a truck from behind, killing Ilango on the spot. Arunachalam was rushed to Royapettah Government Hospital. Pondy Bazaar traffic investigation police have registered a case and detained the truck driver Deenadayalan (26).


In Washermenpet, Arul (67) was fatally knocked down by a speeding autorickshaw in Washermenpet on Monday night when he was crossing the Cemetery road from his house. He died on the spot. Washermenpet traffic police have registered a case.


A 21-year-old man died and his friend sustained injuries after their bike rammed a car from behind near Indira Nagar MRTS station around 11.30 pm on Monday. The deceased, Ranjithkumar of Adambakkam, was riding the bike while his friend Aakash was riding pillion. Both were not wearing helmets, said Adyar traffic investigation police. They rammed a car from behind and were thrown off in the impact. Ranjithkumar died on the spot, while Aakash suffered minor injuries. A case has been registered and further investigation is on.


In yet another fatal accident, 65-year-old Muniraj Rajappa of Dharmapuri was runover by a private bus in Nazarethpet on Monday night when he tried to cross the road.


On Monday night, a 60-year-old man died after his bike rammed police barricades on East Coast Road near Mahabalipuram on Monday night. S Chandran of Mamallapuram, the deputy head of Vanigar Sangam’s South Chennai East district, lost balance near Pallavan statue and rammed the barricades. He was rushed to Mamallapuram government hospital where he died without responding to treatment a few hours later.
