The PM 2.5 in Manali was 87 microgram/m3, Velachery at 58 microgram/m3, and Alandur at 104 microgram/m3, which is close to the permissible limit of 100 microgram/m3 on Tuesday.
When contacted, a senior official of TNPCB said, “The pollution level decreased after the recent rain. Traffic congestion had also affected the air quality in some areas. The pollution levels keep varying and the public need not panic. However, from Monday, it was within a satisfactory level.”
Chennai’s encounter with hazy skies had left citizens concerned as to whether Chennai will also go the Delhi way, where smog-filled skies are annual events.
