On Friday, two elderly women were relieved of gold chains in Kilpauk and Nungambakkam after being offered a ride. The victims’ bags were cut open and gold chains stolen.

Ranganayagi (70) of Venkatachalam Street was offered a ride from Shenoy Nagar to Kilpauk. A woman on board told her that the gold chain she was wearing was broken and advised her to keep in the bag. When Ranganayagi got off the vehicle, she noticed blade mark on her bag, and gold chain missing.

Similarly, on Friday morning, Dakshayani (65) of Mogappair lost her gold during her ride in an autorickshaw to Nungambakkam with 3 other women.

The police are trying to trace the vehicle using CCTV footage. Police suspect that the same gang could be behind the Ayanavaram and Washermanpet incidents.
