According to sources, the accused, Delli (25) of Kanchipadi village near Tiruttani, dropped the girl near the all-women police station in Tiruvallur after the girl’s father filed a habeas corpus petition at the Madras High Court. The Kanagamma Chathiram police, with whom the girl’s father had lodged a complaint of his daughter going missing, inquired the girl and found out that she was sexually assaulted by Delli, who allegedly kidnapped her on the promise of marriage.
“Delli took her to Ambur, Vellore and Tiruvannamalai and checked in at lodges and mansions claiming themselves as a couple. Delli sexually assaulted the girl for about 10 days. Delli came to know about the search against him by the police through his father Ezhumalai (46) and decided to leave her back home,” the police said.
A police team then nabbed Delli during a vehicle check at Arcot Kuppam near Kanagamma Chathiram. Spotting the cops, Delli abandoned the stolen bike and tried to flee. However, the police chased and nabbed him. Delli was also booked under Pocso Act and remanded in judicial custody.
The police said that Delli and his father Ezhumalai were involved in a series of theft cases reported in Kanagamma Chathiram, Tiruttani and Thiruvalangadu areas. The duo often roam on motorbikes and drink together in Tasmac shops before indulging in the crimes, they added.
