Power consumers irked over unattended calls in Tangedco offices
In the wake of incessant rain across city and neighbouring districts, the power consumers living in the low-lying areas were left complaining about power cuts. What has irked them further is that their desperate calls to the local Tangedco offices went unattended.

Power cuts were witnessed in several parts of the city, including Perambur, Vyasarpadi, Kolathur, Tambaram, Velachery, Virugambakkam and Alwarpet. The irritation over this was soon turned into anger, as their repeated attempts to contact the local Tangedco office to register the complaints went unanswered.
At Elango Nagar South in Virugambakkam, the power went off at 7 am on Sunday. It was partially restored by 12 noon. “But the power was not restored in few streets of the same locality. We have been trying to contact the local Tangedco office through the landline and mobile phone numbers but no one is responding to the calls. There is no point in providing the telephone number if the officials are not going to attend the calls,” said a resident of Elango Nagar, clearly angry over the ordeal.
Suresh Kumar, a resident of Sowcarpet, took to social media to complaint about his situation. The supply was cut in his locality since 9 pm on Saturday. “I have called over 20 times to the landline number of the local office. Every time the person would promise to attend the complaint. But till Sunday afternoon, no one has turned up to attend the fault,” he said.
When asked, a senior Tangedco official said that they would look into these complaints raised by the consumers. “We have given strict instructions to the field officials to attend the consumer complaints at the earliest,” the official said.
In addition to 1912, consumers can raise power supply related complaints with the following phone numbers which are functional 24X7: 044-28521109 and 28524422. They can also register their complaints over WhatsApp at 9445850811. In addition, consumers may also call the camp office of P Thangamani, the Minister for Electricity, at 044-24959525.
