Nikita Titov was secured near Russian Consulate on Tuesday and inquiries revealed that he could not return to his country as his visa lapsed 20 days ago.

“He came here on a five-month tourist visa and stayed at an ashram in Kerala. Since he got delayed to return to Chennai, he could not return to Russia. He approached Russian consulate but was allegedly asked to approach Shastri Bhavan. In Shastri Bhavan, he as allegedly asked to apply online. As he did not have a phone number to receive OTPs for the procedure, he was helpless,” said inspector Jayaraj.

Later, as per his instructions, sub-inspector Dineshkumar met consulate officials and helped him get return tickets to Russia. He boarded the flight back to Russia around 8 pm on Wednesday, said the inspector.

It may be noted that the Marina police have already sent a Sudan national, who dropped out of college here, back to his hometown by funding his flight tickets.
