‘Cops’ kidnap drug peddler, 2 detained

Guindy police arrested two men part of a five-member gang that kidnapped a drug dealer posing as policemen and demanded Rs 10,000 to release him.

R Rajaram of St Thomas Mount, father of the victim, Kamesh (23), lodged a complaint at Guindy police station on Wednesday evening. But a few hours later, Kamesh showed up at home and told his father that he was released by the kidnappers.


The kidnap happened on Wednesday afternoon when Rajaram and Kamesh were on their way Ambal Nagar on a two -wheeler. They were intercepted by a car in Ganapathy Colony, and five men who alighted from it claimed to bepolice personnel fromSt Thomas Mount station. They searched Kameshfor drugs and tookhim in their car to the ‘police station’.


As Kamesh already has a drug case pending against him at St Thomas Mount police station, Rajaram believed them and returned home alone. However, around 5 pm, he received a call from an anonymous number, with the caller demanding Rs 10,000 to release his son.


But Kamesh returned home around 7.30 pm and was taken to the police. Based on his inputs, police have detained two men.
