Pudhur road users struggle without traffic signal

Lack of a traffic signal at Pudhur in Ambattur has led to pedestrians and motorists having to face an everyday threat to their lives. The numerous accidents reported here are being attributed to the failure of the civic body to install a traffic signal at the junction.

“Riding a bike on this road is a challenge. Not only here, but many areas like this, lack traffic signals. Some motorists ride on the wrong side, causing accidents. Moreover, it takes almost an hour to cross the junction during peak hours,” said Manikandan R, a commuter.

Pedestrians also complain that they have no separate space to walk. This makes the place congested and the situation worsens during rush hours. Commercial establishments also have allegedly narrowed the roads and made it difficult for pedestrians.

“Traffic here is at its peak throughout the day. Security guards of the buildings here help us cross the road by regulating the vehicles. Over-speeding vehicles during peak hours pose a huge threat to pedestrians. Installing a signal here is a must or at least two or three policemen should be posted here to regulate traffic. No action has been taken by the authorities yet,” said Kalaivani P, a resident.

When asked about the issue, a traffic policeman at the junction said, “It is difficult for us to handle the traffic, especially during peak hours. We have informed the higher officials regarding the issue, and they said they will install a traffic signal soon and the procedure is underway.”
