Doctors’ strike did not affect patients, say city police

The City police, while replying to a complaint received through Chief Minister’s cell said that the recent 13-day strike by government doctors at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital (RGGGH) had no impact on inpatients or outpatients.

M Kasimayan, an activist, who had filed a petition to the Chief Minister’s cell on the recent strike by government doctors, claimed that the reply by the city police was written blindly without conducting an enquiry with him.

He had received a summons from RGGGH police station on November 24 to explain his side even as the Flower Bazaar inspector closed the same case on November 20 itself, without even conducting an enquiry with him.

In the reply details submitted by the police from Flower Bazaar police district to the CM cell, it said that there was no complaint from the hospital administration regarding the strike at Rajiv Gandhi Government General Hospital. The enquiry was carried out by the Flower Bazaar inspector on November 20, the reply said.

The reply further claimed that the hospital administration informed that the inpatient and outpatient wings functioned smoothly without any hurdle during the strike.

The reply also noted that the petitioner was enquired and he had said that he was going to approach the court in connection with the issue, while the petitioner claims that he was never enquired by any police officer from Flower bazaar.

At the same time, the complainant received a summons from the RGGGH police station asking him to appear for an enquiry on November 24 in connection with his petition. “I could not appear before the sub-inspector of RGGGH and so I asked for the date to be postponed. But, on Thursday, I received a mail the CM cell informing that an enquiry was conducted by the Flower Bazaar police inspector. “It also said that no patient was affected by the strike. I wonder if all the replies by the police department to CM’s cell are like this!” exclaimed the petitioner.

When contacted, Deputy Commissioner of Police, Flower Bazaar, said that he would look into the issue.
