The incident happened at the pawnshop owned by one Vimal Chand Jain on Thiruporur-Nellikuppam Road. The police said that Vimal Chand was checking the accounts and preparing to close the shop around 9 pm on Sunday when the gang barged in.

The police said two masked men entered the shop with a gun and knives while another man was standing outside. They threatened Vimal Chand to hand over the cash and the jewels to them. The police said that Vimal Chand had fixed an emergency alarm at his shop and he managed to press the it. The alarm went off and it gained the attention of the public. Before anyone reached, the robbers managed to escape. “As soon as the alarm sounded, the three masked men started running from the shop,” thepolice noted.

The Kaayar police, who visited the spot, browsed the CCTV footage from the shop and have started a search to nab the suspects.

The police noted that the shop had been targetted by robbers earlier too. A gang had tried to enter the shop by making a hole in the wall behind the shop a couple of years ago. Fortunate for the owner, he had fixed a camera with sensors and it alerted him when the burglars tried to break in. He had immediately alerted the police and they rushed to nab the burglars, but they aborted the attempt and escaped from the spot.
