“There will be heavy rainfall in the State for the next 48 hours. The northeast monsoon rains began last October. However, the rain in the northern areas, including Chennai, is reduced, though Ramanathapuram and Tirunelveli areas have observed heavy rainfall until the last week. The rain is to start early in Cuddalore to Thoothukudi coast before Friday evening. The sky would be generally cloudy with heavy rainfall on Saturday,” said an RMC official. He added that the maximum temperature would be 31 degree Celsius and minimum temperature 25 degree Celsius.
Heavy rains are predicted in Cuddalore, Nagapattinam, Karaikkal, Tiruvarur and Thanjavur districts and nearby areas. In Nellai Ghat areas, around Papanasam, Dindigul, and Puducherry, there is a chance of rainfall from Saturday.
The rain also brought down the maximum temperatures in the city and weather stations in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam recorded 30.9 degree Celsius and 29.6 degree Celsius respectively. The minimum temperature was 23.9 degree Celsius and 23.4 degree Celsius in Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam. “Enjoy the short spells in KTC (Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, Chennai and Cuddalore) and peak rains expected on Saturday morning. There will be heavy rainfall from Friday night until the next morning. Chennai is expected to receive a good rainfall for one last time,” said Tamil Nadu Weatherman, Pradeep John.
