Police personnel’s role in case of a protest or an agitation which is conducted with due permission is restricted to maintain law and order and ensure the event gets over without any untoward incident.
However, Triplicane crime inspector S Seetharaman and law and order sub-inspector Marudhu, who were posted for bandobust duty for an agitation meet organised by the Vanigar Sangangalin Kootamaippu briefly converted into a stage to speak about the KavalanSOS application.
While agitation was organised to condemn the Centre against the proposed hike in the Goods and Service Tax, Seetharaman sought permission from the organisers to speak for a few minutes after which the sub-inspector Marudhu spoke in detail about the importance of keeping the Kavalan SOS application in all mobile phones to alert police when if they are in distress.
Later, inspector Seetharaman explained how to download the application in the phone and install it and clarified the doubts raised by the protesters. Speaking to DT Next, the inspector said, “The application is very important for women, but it does not mean that men cannot use it. This application is for everyone. So, we thought of using the protest to create awareness about the application to the men participating at the protest.”
Meanwhile, Vadapalani police created awareness about Kavalan SOS app at Forum Mall, while Chintadripet police held a meeting with students of the police boys and girls club to speak about the application.
