City colleges erupt against Delhi action

Even as protests against Citizenship Amendment Act 2019 gripped the nation, students from several colleges in the city held protests inside their respective campus condemning the alleged police brutality unleashed on students protesting against CAA in New Delhi.

Expressing solidarity with their counterparts in New Delhi, students from Mohammed Sathak College, IIT-Madras, Loyola college and New college among several other institutions held a sit-in protest at their respective colleges.

The protests held by groups of students lasted between 30 minutes to two hours in which students held placards supporting the student’s protest against CAA claiming that it spread Islamophobia. Expressing shock over attack on protesting students, DMK president MK Stalin took to Twitter to express solidarity with them and said, “Shocked to see visuals of brutal attacks on students in Jamia Millia and Aligarh Muslim University.” The DMK also issued a clarion call to his party cadre to turn up in large numbers for Tuesday demonstration to expose the discriminatory legislation of the ruling BJP and the betrayal of the AIADMK which supported it. Meanwhile, CPI (M) would move the Supreme Court challenging the Act, party secretary K Balakrishnan said. He said that CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury would move the SC against the CAA 2019.  More on P5
