Mini truck rams bus stop, fatally knocks down woman

A 41-year-old woman who was waiting to board an MTC bus near Tidel Park was fatally knocked down as an empty truck ran amok and rammed the bus stop on Monday afternoon.

The deceased was identified as Thilagavathi of Mogappair. When she was waiting at the bus stop opposite to the Indira Nagar MRTS station, a mini truck proceeding towards Madhya Kailash from Tidal Park suddenly ran over the pavement and hit the bus stop. The vehicle came to a halt after hitting another car.


Thilagavathi, who was sitting at the stop, suffered grievous injuries on her head and collapsed at the spot. Shocked motorists rescued her and rushed her to a nearby private hospital. However, doctors declared her brought dead.


On information, the Adyar traffic investigation police retrieved her body and sent it to Government Royapettah Hospital for post-mortem examination.


The truck driver, Senthil Kumar (37), was bashed up by people and handed over to the police. Inquiries revealed that the truck has a brake failure and that led to the accident.


The police said that Thilagavathi was a divorcee and came to Taramani to attend a beautician course. She was waiting to board a bus to Vadapalani where she had joined a restaurant as a supervisor on Sunday.


Lorry rams govt bus, kills BDO staff

A 37-year-old woman died and four others were injured after a lorry rammed a government bus near Maduranthagam on Monday.


The deceased was identified as S Banumathi from Chengalpattu, a staffer working at the Maduranthagam BDO office.


On Monday morning, the bus from Uthiramerur stopped at the Maduranthagam bus stop. While the passengers were getting down from the bus, a lorry coming from behind lost its control and rammed the bus. In the impact, Banumathi and four other passengers suffered severe injuries. Police said Banumathi died on the spot.


On information, the Maduranthagam police team arrived at the spot and admitted the injured persons to the Maduranthagam GH and sent Banumathi’s body for post mortem examination. The police have registered a case and are searching for the absconding lorry driver.


College student dies in two-wheeler accident

A 20-year-old college student died in an accident near Guduvancherry when the two-wheeler on which he was travelling collided head-on with another bike on Sunday.


The deceased was identified as Akash from Iyyapa Nagar in Madipakkam, who was doing third-year Physiotherapy in SRM college, Potheri.


Akash had gone to the college with his friends on Saturday and the accident happened while he was returning home with a friend on a two-wheeler around 10.30 pm. In the impact, Akash suffered severe injuries and was taken to a private hospital in Potheri. On Sunday night, Akash died without responding to treatments. The Guduvancherry police have registered a case and are inquiring.
