HC: Finish poll to Pachaiyappa’s Board in 6 months
The whole gamut of controversies bogging the Pachaiyappa’s Trust Board has seemingly come to an end with the Madras High Court (MHC) on Wednesday appointing former MHC judge P Shanmugam, who is presently the interim administrator of Pachaiyappa’s Charities, as the president of the Trust Board with a direction to conduct elections to the Board within the next six months.

Justice R Suresh Kumar was passing orders on a batch of writ petitions challenging issues relating to elections to the Board, properties owned by the Trust and modification of the scheme governing the Trust.
“As per the modified scheme, the election shall be conducted by the Trust Board headed by the president to be appointed, to elect the members of the Trust Board under various categories within six months, after implementing the modification made regarding the eligibility condition and criteria pertaining to the voter as well as candidates who contest under various categories,” the judge said.
The judge also cancelled the lease deed executed by the erstwhile Trust Board of Pachaiyappa’s Charities in 2017 in favour of Muhurthaam Event Management Private Limited (MEMPL) with regard to Anna Arangam and Amma Arangam, and directed MEMPL to hand over the buildings within 10 days.
The judge in his order also directed the Trust Board of Pachaiyappa’s Charities to save the playground of Pachaiyappa’s College for Men in Chennai and the C. Kandaswami Naidu College for Men too in the city by releasing the grounds from the clutches of parking amenities of the respective Arangams.
