According to the police, Saravanan, a contractor and resident of Thoraipakkam, purchased a Volvo S90 worth Rs 70 lakh in his wife’s name from the car showroom on Anna Salai. However, Saravanan and four others reached the showroom around 10 am on Friday and demanded his car to be returned immediately. The gang also allegedly began to consume liquor inthe showroom.
When the staff confronted them, the gang abused them and went on to damage cars and other valuables at the showroom. They also allegedly dismantled the CCTV cameras and DVRs at the premises and put them in their vehicles beforeescaping.
Based on a complaint, the Teynampet police registered a case and arrested Saravanan and four others on Saturday. The other accused were identified as M Rithish (40), A Ashraf (41), S Justin (20) and R Saravanan (25). Two of the them were conservancy workers, the police said.
