District electoral roll released, spl camps in Jan for addition, correction

The number of voters in Chennai district has registered an increase, revealed the draft electoral roll that was released on Monday. The electoral roll can be verified at Tondiarpet, Royapuram, Thiru Vi Ka Nagar, Anna Nagar, Kodambakkam and Adyar zonal offices. Voters born after January 1, 2002, can apply for the inclusion of names and existing voters can apply for correction before January 22, 2020, said the Greater Chennai Corporation.
The 16 assembly constituencies in the district have 38,88,673 voters, while it was 38,66,066 voters according to the voters’ list released in March.
“Of the total voters in the draft list in Chennai district, 19,71,966 voters are women and 19,15,718 are men. Besides them, there are 989 transgender voters,” said District Electoral Officer and Corporation Commissioner G Prakash who released the list on Monday.
The city Corporation received applications from new votersfor adding their names and to make corrections in the listfrom the persons born after January 1, 2002.
Following the addition and deletion drive, the civic body has included 32,362 voters including 16,015 women and 11 transgender voters. Names of 9,745 voters were deleted from the list that was released in March.
According to a press release issued by the Corporation, Velachery constituency has the highest number voters with 3,03,909 voters among the 16 constituencies in the district, whereas Harbour constituency has the least number of voters – 1,69,620. RK Nagar constituency has the highest number of transgender voters with 104 voters, while Chepauk–Triplicane constituency has the least – only 28 transgender voters among total voters of 2,27,102, the release said.
Applications for addition and correction can be sent through www.elections.tn.gov.in or participate in special camps to be held on January 4, January 5, January 11 and January 12.
Speaking to the reporters, Commissioner Prakash said letters have been sent to Chengalpattu district administration to include the names of people who were evicted from the banks of Adyar and Cooum rivers and relocated to slum clearance board tenements in Perumbakkam.
