The incident happened on December 12 night when an employee of a forex firm in Parry’s Corner was on his way to his boss Anees’s house in Royapettah with Rs 17.91 lakh. He was attacked by a gang on Moore Street. But the gang fled with the wrong bag, while the bag containing cash fell on the roadside.
Later, a pedestrian found the bag and handed it over to the police. The North Beach police had launched a hunt for the suspects with the help of CCTV footage retrieved from Moore street. While the police detained a few suspects on Monday for interrogation, based on their confession, the key suspects Thamim Ansari and Mohamed Azar were secured on Wednesday. The other suspects were identified as Suresh, Ramesh, Giridharan, Vadivel and Parthiban.
After an investigation, the police said that the main suspect, Jaffer, colluded with Thamim Ansari and Mohamed Azar to hatch a plan to rob Aneesh. As per his instructions, Thamim Ansari and Mohamed Azar kept a watch for Aneesh’s movements for over a month. “The duo informed Jaffer about Aneesh’s employee Mohammed Abubakar Siddique stepping out with cash and Jaffer and his gang members waited for him on Moore street,” said a senior police official.
A hunt has been launched for Jaffer and Mohamed Farzad.
