“Midnight bike racing has turned into a menace in Chennai and though the city police claim that they have controlled bike racing in the city, the number of bikes involved in such racing keep on increasing. As the bikers indulge in high speed racing the number of deaths also keep increasing every week,” said Ramadoss, in a statement.
The PMK founder also said that midnight bike racing happens on East Coast Road (ECR), Kamarajar Road near Marina beach, Beach Road in Beasant Nagar, Perambur bridge and the connecting roads. In all these places the houses of High Court Judges, Ministers and officials are present and these places have turned highly insecure due to bike riders. Ramadoss further said that high speed bikes are used in the races. “Bikes which have engine capacity of 650 cc or more are used in midnight bike racing and persons involved speed at more than 200 km/per hour.As persons from economically and politically influential families are involved, government and police hesitate to act upon them,”rued Ramadoss.
