Students plan campaign to boost reading habit at Chennai Book Fair

The Booksellers’ and Publishers’ Association of South India (BAPASI) organises the 43rd Chennai Book Fair at YMCA Grounds, Nandanam on January 9, 2020. The book fair will be open for 13 days from January 9 to 21 January, 2020.

The Chennai Book Fair attracting book lovers from various places, is one of the Asia’s largest book fair holding nearly 700 stalls with 15 lakh book titles and more than 2 crore books all under a single roof.


This event will be graced by the Ministers of Tamil Nadu, Chennai district Collector, eminent personalities, officials and teachers.


The book fair would be open on weekdays between 3 pm to 9 pm whereas on holidays, it functions between from 11 am to 9 pm.


Creating history each year, the Chennai Book Fair has roped in nearly 5,000 students this year, from various schools in and around Chennai for an event titled ‘CHENNAI READS’ in the YMCA Grounds, Nandanam at 10 am on January 6, where students would read books showcasing the goodness and necessity of reading.


Chennai Book Fair, focusing on Tamil - one of the world’s ancient languages filled with rich heritage have organised a special auditorium to showcase the features of the Tamil ancient heritage, titled ‘Keeladi – Eeradi’.


The Department of Archaeology has consented to exhibit the evidences related, to educate the public.


Apart from that, world renowned book sellers have announced a 10% discount on all their books sold at the book fair. School and college students can avail free tickets for the book fair while others have to pay Rs 10 per head.
