Sources said the MTC bus service to Adyar was operational from Komada Nagar in Thaiyur village for many years until 2012 when the service was stopped without any proper announcement. People from 13 villages including Valama Nagar, Periyapilleri, Chinnapilleri were affected by this decision and had to travel 6 km to Kelambakkam-Thiruporur Road for a bus.

Over the years, the villagers submitted several petitions to higher officials requesting for the service to resume again, but no one would commit to when it would be available again. On Thursday morning, however, the villagers were surprised to see the route bus in Komada Nagar. The driver and the conductor confirmed that the service has been resumed.

As the news spread, villagers gathered, tied banana trees on the bus and decorated it. They even carried out an ‘aarti’ and even welcomed the driver and the conductor. Several villagers said that they had been struggling for more than 7 years without this bus service and were planning to boycott the next polls because of it.
