According to a Chennai Corporation official, two nano-composting centres have been set up at Rs 4 lakh on a trial basis and it would be expanded to other parts of the city.
“Unlike micro composting centres, residents and IT professionals who work odd hours can give their waste at the nano-composting centres as the facility will function round the clock,”he said.
The nano-composting centres have detachable pits, from which the compost can be taken without touching it. Each nano-composting centre has a composting capacity of 116 kilograms per day. Chennai Corporation Commissioner G Prakash inspected the new facilities, on Friday.
