On December 31, Kumar (30) and Pushparajan (30) of Poonthope Colony of Velur near Minjur ordered a cake at a bakery at Tiruvellavoyal to celebrate the former’s birthday. However, when the duo went to collect the cake, they were allegedly made to wait for over an hour which led an argument between them.
As Kumar and Pushparajan were returning home on a two-wheeler, a 10-member gang, including the staff, intercepted them near Eriyapillaikuppam and attacked them with weapons before fleeing the spot. They were initially admitted at Ponneri government hospital. Later, Pushparajan who suffered grievous injuries was shifted to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital. However, he died on Saturday without responding to treatment. The Kattur police, who had registered a case, arrested five persons under murder charges.
