M Ranish Babu of Kannikapuram, a Class 8 student of a private school, had come to the showroom with his mother M Sasikala (31) to purchase clothes for Pongal festival.
As Sasikala was busy checking out the dresses, Ranish Babu, who was playing in the escalator on the eighth floor, allegedly stuck his head over the moving handrail as the stairs were going up.
Close to the higher floor, his head got jammed between the rail and the base of the other floor. However, Ranish Babu was alert and started moving downstairs though he could not move his head out.
Others who noticed it alerted the staff and the escalator was stopped. Ranish Babu was rescued and rushed to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital for treatment as he had suffered injuries on the back of his head. On information, Vepery police inquired the victim and his mother, and received a complaint from her. Further inquiry is on.
