It was organised following a social audit which was conducted in the night shelters a few weeks ago. During the workshop, sessions were held on the Pocso Act and Senior Citizen Act by experts and government officials. Night shelter coordinators were also taught about domestic violence and the laws pertaining to it.
“On Tuesday, an internal meeting was conducted. The capacity-building workshop will help the NGOs to run the night shelters more efficiently. Knowledge of laws can result in better support to the aggrieved persons,” said Venessa Peter, policy researcher of Information and Resource Centre for the Deprived Urban Communities (IRCDUC).
Currently, the civic body runs 37 shelters for the homeless and 13 night shelters in government hospitals to be used by relatives of patients and abandoned patients.
