“Various lightly-used items in good condition donated by citizens will be on offer for others to either swap it with a similar item, or buy it at a nominal price,” said Alby John, the regional deputy commissioner (South) of Chennai Corporation, in a tweet.

The residents dropped off their items at 10 locations in the zone, that are mostly ward offices and

unit offices.

Toys, gently used clothes (no innerwear and socks), utensils, crockery, small appliances, electronic items in working condition, footwear, backpack, suitcase, trolley, bags, small furniture, blanket, pillowcase, bicycles, artificial jewellery and others can be donated at the event. The items can also be brought to the venue and swapped for similar items.

Alby also requested the citizens not to donate non-reusable items. “Please don’t see it as an opportunity to dump things that we don’t need. We will receive only those items which can be reused and are in good shape,” he said.
