Elderly woman held with ganja, hunt on for kin
A 67-year-old woman was arrested by Adambakkam police for selling ganja and a search is on to nab four of her family members.

The woman was identified as Bernath from Ambedkar Nagar in Adambakkam, from whom the police seized 1.2 kg of ganja and Rs 1,000.
The police had received a tip-off that ganja was being supplied to the youngsters in the locality. On Friday, a patrol team noticed a group of five, including two women, supplying ganja in a dark area in Adambakkam. After spotting the police, four of them escaped from the spot and but the personnel managed to surround Bernath. According to the police, the woman was supplying ganja along with her daughter, son-in-law and two grandchildren. They used to smuggle it from Andhra.
In Trivottiyur, the police arrested a woman peddler and seized six kg ganja from her. The accused, Vasuki alias Anbarasi (31) of Thilagar Nagar in Tiruvottiyur, was secured at her house after the police received information that she has been selling ganja to youngsters in the neighbourhood. The police team searched her house and found six kg ganja. The contraband has been seized and she was remanded in judicial custody. Similarly, the Adambakkam police arrested K Bernard, a 70-year-old, and seized 1.250 kg ganja.
Meanwhile in Pallavaram, more than 55 kg of banned tobacco products were seized from a provisional store. On Friday night, the police conducted a surprise raid at a provisional store in Venpuliamman Koil Street. When they asked the shopkeeper, Madasamy (50), to open a locked room, he initially claimed that he had lost the key. When the door was broke open, they found gutkha and pan masala inside, an official said.
Madasammy and his son Ganapathi (20) were arrested and remanded in judicial custody.
