While the police often are accused of not handling transpersons in a dignified manner, the Choolaimedu police have been closely working with the transgender community living at Namachivayapuram to rehabilitate them and help them find work and lead a dignified life.

While police officials often conduct meeting with the transpersons, in November last year, some transgenders sought financial help for two of their aged and ailing transgenders — Sasi and Kokila.

While all police personnel pitched in to buy them groceries worth Rs 6,000, Thozhi, an NGO working for the welfare of transpersons, requested for help again. Sub-inspectors Jhansirani and Balaguru collected money from other police personnel and bought them rice, groceries and vegetables. The transgenders thanked police for their help.
