Recently, the zoo authorities had made the arrangement for watching new-born tiger cubs. After the good response from the public in the last three days, the officials decided to extend it to Kaanum Pongal, too.
“We will stream live the activities of the new-born animals in the zoo. Recently, a female calf was born to Indian Gaurs Reema and Rahul. At present, the zoo has 24 Indian Gaurs which can be viewed through two-layer enclosures at the zoo,” said a senior official of Arignar Anna Zoological Park.
The official added that on Kaanum Pongal, the visitors would not be allowed at the Otteri lake and lion safari. “Because there will be more crowd on Thursday, we won’t be able to manage it in those areas,” he said. Also, the battery vehicle would not be available.
This year, the zoo received more number of visitors compared to last year. On Pongal day, there were 21,900 visitors, which went up to around 42,000 visitors on Thursday. On New Year, there were 30,000 people visiting the zoo, which was the highest in the last three years. Last year, there were 40,000 visitors on Kaanum Pongal. The zoo authorities are expecting more visitors this year.
