Live workshop on slide tracheoplasty held by city hospital

The workshop organised by Frontier Lifeline Hospital focused on showcasing two live surgical demonstrations of slide tracheoplasty. A detailed discussion on tracheal repair was also held in which medical professionals across the country participated. The workshop is centred on the rare condition that could be both congenital (from birth) or due to complications of long time ventilation.

Doctors said that the surgical treatment was only the alternative as there is no medical treatment. Surgery is also complex, as it requires the help of heart-lung machine because the patient would not breath during the procedure. It is tedious and time consuming, and no centres practicing it, pointed out Dr KM Cherian, founder of Frontier Lifeline Hospital. “There is no opportunity for doctors, especially thoracic surgeons and ENT specialists, to  see or acquire the practical tips for successful correction of these conditions,” he added.
