The incident happened near Avvaiyar statute opposite Lady Willington School. One of the men arguing with police personnel was identified as Michael of Ambattur, while the car, a white Scorpio with AIADMK flag in the front and former chief minister J Jayalalithaa’s photo on the dashboard, is registered in the name of one KS Prabhu.

Two videos of 54 seconds and 3.24 minutes duration show two men repeatedly arguing with Assistant Commissioner Sathyamoorthy, who was posted at Marina beach for bandobust, asking him to let their car inside the service road though the traffic police had barred all the vehicles from entering it to avoid traffic snarl.

When the official was firm on not allowing their car and asked them to leave the car and go to the beach on foot, the men asked him whether he was lenient to the opposition party. Irked by the behaviour of the men, the official asked the personnel to arrest them and alert the temporary control room.

However, when contacted, Marina police, under whose jurisdiction the incident took place, said that no case has been registered as there was no complaint lodged against them. Assistant Commissioner Sathyamoorthy said no complaint was lodged and that they were let off with a warning as they were behaving under the influence of alcohol. “They first argued with traffic police personnel and it came to my attention,” said the official.

However, the video went viral on social media on Saturday, with many questioning the police for letting them off without booking them just because they have political affiliations.
