A division bench before whom the plea styled as a public interest litigation, ordered notice to the Corporation commissioner, Greater Chennai Corporation and others returnable by February 21. The petitioner alleged that there are many encroachments on MC Road and GA Road of New Washermanpet, and a representation was submitted as early as on 25 October 2019 with no action coming forth till date. He further pointed out that the identification process under the provisions of the Street Vendors [Protection of Livelihood Regulation] Act, 2014, has been done and despite that, the Zonal Corporation officials are not taking any action to remove the encroachments. Based on this, the counsels appearing for the Corporation and others submitted a counter affidavit, regards the enumeration done in respect of the said places and location of the alternate site to the street vendors with supporting documents and photographs of the same.
