Truck topples near Gummidipoondi, 2 killed
Two persons died and 11 others sustained injuries as a mini truck carrying 22 people and vegetables toppled on the Chennai-Kolkata highway near Gummidipoondi on Saturday morning.

The deceased were identified as Parandhaman (60) of MN Kandigai village near Sathyavedu and Sekar (55) of Alamelumangapuram village in Andhra Pradesh, working as vendors. They died on the way to the hospital, said the Gummidipoondi police.
Among the injured, four were women. The others were identified as driver Kotteswaran (36) of Alamelumangapuram village.
The incident happened when the truck was on its way to Sathyavedu from Koyamebdu vegetable market. But, driver Kotteshwaran lost his control over the vehicle while crossing Kavarapettai on Saturday and the truck toppled. Passers-by rescued the victims and rushed them to Ponneri Government Hospital. The Gummidipoondi police have registered a case. Further inquiry is on.
