Nine arrested for murder of history-sheeter
At least nine persons, including a juvenile, were arrested by Sembium police two days after a 23-year-old history-sheeter was hacked to death at his house on Friday night.

The accused were identified as S Hariharan (20) and R Thangraj (23) of Kodungaiyur, S Karthik (22) of Perambur, and D Naveen (22), M Bhuvaneshwar alias Mukesh (19), G Sanjay (20), J Suresh (19), R Vignesh (19) and a 17-year-old of Vyasarpadi.Assistant Commissioner Surenthiran said that the deceased, S Santhoshkumar, often assaulted the suspects under the influence of alcohol and also had previous enmity with Thangadurai. “The accused got together and decided to eliminate Santhoshkumar as they found him a nuisance for them in the locality,” said police.
The incident happened around 8 pm on Friday when Santhoshkumar was standing outside his house speaking to Hariharan and Naveen. Eight men reached the spot in three bikes with weapons and on noticing them Santhoshkumar ran into his house. However, the gang chased and hacked him repeatedly in front of his family members before fleeing the spot. Hariharan and Naveen also joined the gang, Santhoshkumar’s mother said in her complaint.
Meanwhile, the Pulianthope police have arrested history-sheeters A Sakthivel (40), B Mari (33), T Suresh (40), and P Ragu (42) of Pulianthope, and M Rafiq (23) of Vyasarpadi in possession of machetes.
