Out of the 118.9 km in the second phase, the Metro will initially take up a priority stretch of 52 km covering Corridors three and five, and then Corridor four.
An official said that Nippon Koei, Aarvee Associates Architects Engineers and Consultants, and Balaji Rail Road’s Systems Private Limited were appointed as the consultants for the 52 km line between Madhavaram and Sholinganallur and from Madhavaram to CMBT. For Corridor four – between Marina and Poonamallee – general consultant is likely to be appointed separately, sources said.
The general consultants would assist in reviewing the designs that contractors submit; monitor construction from foundation laying to installation of signalling and electrical systems, and also quality control and safety; contract management; plan operation and maintenance; and train personnel.
The bids have been called for appointing general consultant for the Corridor 4, the official added.
CMRL has fully operationalised the Phase 1 covering 45 lilometres stretch. The Phase-one extension line connecting Washermenpet and Wimco is likely to opened mid this year.
