Police said that the boy, John, fell sick on Tuesday after which the woman, identified as Revathi of West Mambalam, admitted him to ICH. Meanwhile, one of the 11 special teams formed by the Flower Bazaar police to trace the child, spotted the woman entering the hospital. Soon, the child was rescued and Revathi was secured on Monday.

Flower Bazaar Deputy Commissioner Rajendran said that the child will be reunited with her parents through Childline on Tuesday.

The accused had introduced herself as Radha to the child’s parents, Johnny and Randesha Bhosle from Maharashtra, who sell balloons at Marina beach for a living. According to the police, Revathi is married to Elangovan, a tailor, and the couple has a daughter.

“She claims that she wanted to have a boy, but apparently had three miscarriages. Somebody gave her the idea of stealing the child, pointing out that the parents would be willing to hand over the boy if she approached them with an offer to cast him in a film,” said the police. But a senior official added that she had to be grilled further to find out these claims were true.

On Sunday, claiming that a skin test had to be done, Revathi took the child and parents to Omandurar Government Hospital and then to RGGGH. Claiming that she had to get a certificate for the child, she took the boy into a secluded ward and then disappeared.
