According to an official source from the Housing department, the government is discussing the possible amendments to the rules with various government agencies, including Greater Chennai Corporation.
“There are some weak clauses in the Tamil Nadu Combined Development and Building Rules. To make the rules more potent, the amendments will be made,” the source said.
It is learnt that a few rounds of discussions have been held at the State Secretariat to discuss the changes to be made.
The Housing and Urban Development department had implemented the rules by revising and reissuing various building rules that existed under various Acts for city Corporations, municipalities, town and village panchayats.
“Only a few sections of the Tamil Nadu Combined Development and Building Rules will be amended, and the government will release the amendment order soon. The amendments will correct goof-ups in the existing notification,” the source added.
Apart from deciding to make amendments in the Rules, the government also has decided to make changes in Chennai Unified Metropolitan Transport Authority (CUMTA) Act, as the existing Act has outdated, the source said.
The authority was notified in January 2019, but it has not held even a single meeting so far.
