6 snatchers arrested in three cases

The police have arrested six persons in connection with three chain and mobile phone snatching incidents.

The Vepery police arrested D Vijayakumar (20) of Vyasarpadi and G Prasanth (19) of Parry’s Corner for snatching a mobile phone from a pedestrian on Sunday. Surajkumar Sahani (21) of Uttar Pradesh, who works as a carpenter and stays at Besant Nagar, was snatched of his phone on Perambur Barracks Road. Based on his complaint, the police registered a case and secured the suspects with the help of CCTV footage. They were remanded in judicial custody.


Meanwhile, the Teynampet police have arrested history-sheeter M Kumaresan (22) of Thoraipakkam for snatching a mobile phone from a pedestrian near DMS bus stop. A hunt has been launched for his accomplices — Mitai Karthik and Veeramani.


Similarly, the Ashok Nagar police, who had arrested a 24-year-old man on Saturday for robbing a pedestrian of two sovereigns, held three more of his accomplices on Monday and remanded. The accused were identified as T Sundar (40), S Gunasekar (26) and P Stalin (22) of Ashok Nagar. The gang robbed a gold chain from J Raja (24) of Vadapalani when he was returning from work via Dr Ambedkar Road at Ashok Nagar.


Juvenile among trio held

The Kundrathur police arrested three persons, including a juvenile, after they robbed a man. The accused, V Vignesh (21) of Kundrathur and S Loganathan (21) of Poonthandalam, were remanded in judicial custody, while the juvenile was sent to an observation home. The victim, Z Vinith (24) of St Thomas Mount, was waiting near Madha Engineering College when the gang robbed him of a 1.5 sovereigns, wallet, mobile phone and two-wheeler.
