The survey, conducted by KANTAR and NFX Digital, highlighting some of the challenges faced by liqour consumers in Tamil Nadu, with a sample size of 3,000 in Chennai has revealed that out of the 48% of consumers in the city who prefer drinking out of home (OOH), 44% drink in cars, car parking while another 10% prefer drinking in public places.

The study was conducted to understand issues consumers in Tamil Nadu face including overcharging liquor prices for preferred liquor brands. According to the survey, most of the alcohol consumers in the State claimed that there was a prevalence of price variations across the Tasmac outlets.

“Non-availability of preferred brands, extra payment for buying preferred brands, outlets being dingy, dirty, lack of sufficient licensed spaces for liquor consumption resulted in people drinking in public places and in their cars,” the findings revealed.

The ISWAI representatives, quoting the survey, said the illegal selling (79%) after permissible hours and on dry days is quite prevalent.

Later, while talking to the media persons, they also requested the Tamil Nadu government to prosecute liquor companies that target the underage youth on the social and traditional media.

They also urged the government to prosecute alcohol companies that are advertising in social and traditional media to lure underage youth.
