Government bus crew, toll plaza staff among 5 arrested for Paranur violence
Five men, including the toll plaza staff and government bus driver and conductor, were arrested by the police in connection with the violence that broke out at the toll plaza in Paranur on Saturday. After the incident damaged the facility, toll is not being collected from the motorists for the second day.

The arrested persons were identified as Kuldeep Singh (24) of Rajasthan and Vikas Gupta (27) from Utter Pradesh, both staff at the Panarur toll Plaza, and the crew of the government bus, driver Narayanan (46) and conductor Pasumpon (38), both from Tirunelveli. The police also arrested Muthu (37) of Chengalpattu.
On Saturday night, the staff at the Paranur toll plaza had asked the SETC bus to pay the toll fare. Angered by this, the driver parked the bus horizontally in the toll booth and began to argue with the staff. Soon, other drivers and public gathered there and began to attack the booth and damaged the equipment there.
A team from Chengalpattu police, led by a DSP rushed to the spot and brought the situation under control. On Sunday night, the police arrested the five persons for damaging government properties and creating a disturbance to the public.
They were remanded in judicial custody. Following the incident, the toll plaza has not been functioning for the second day on Monday.
