A Chennai Corporation official said that the decision has been taken to cater to the devotees visiting in large numbers from within the city and also from other districts.
“The multilevel car parking will come in a plot abutting Palani Andavar Koil Street and South Perumal Koil Street. The plot selected for the project belongs to the Greater Chennai Corporation,” the official added.
It is learnt that the proposed multilevel parking facility would be different from the conventional technology and the civic body would use smart shuttle parking method. The civic body has estimated Rs 4.30 crore for the project.
As per the new smart shuttle parking technology, the car owners should park their vehicles at the entry point. The system would identify empty parking slots and the cars would be automatically parked at the vacant spots.
“We have invited construction firms to construct the multilevel car parking under design, engineering, procurement and construction (DEPC) method. Once the works are completed, the facility will accommodate up to 50 cars at once,” the official said.
Proposed Vadapalani multilevel parking facility would be the third such facility in the city as construction works of a parking facility in T Nagar is going on under Smart City Mission.
The T Nagar facility will accommodate 550 two-wheelers and 250 cars. Another multilevel parking would be constructed on Mahatma Gandhi Road in Nungambakkam.
