Corpn flags off rescue vehicle for homeless
The Greater Chennai Corporation had flagged off a rescue vehicle to transport sick and elderly homeless persons to the night shelters run by the civic body, on Tuesday. State Municipal Administration Minister SP Velumani flagged off the vehicle in an event at Ripon Buildings.

According to a Chennai Corporation official, the vehicle has facilities including wheelchair, stretcher, television and air conditioner. “The rescue vehicle will have a counsellor,” the official said.
The civic body has spent Rs 17 lakh for the vehicle. Also, the Chennai Corporation has decided to procure two more rescue vehicles in a few weeks.
As of now, civic officials and NGOs running night shelters on behalf of the civic body use ordinary cars or SUVs to rescue the homeless persons.
