Chill gives way to warming in city, to remain so

The temperature during the day has recorded a spike in the past few days and is likely to remain high for about 48 hours, said Regional Meteorological Centre officials on Thursday. Meanwhile, a dip in the minimum temperature during the evening hours is also expected for the same period.

The presence of anti-cyclone over the Bay of Bengal has led to the presence of southerly winds over various parts of the State and has caused the temperature changes, an official from RMC said.

As per the bulletin from the Regional Meteorological Centre, a few places over North Tamil Nadu recorded temperature above the normal recording with a rise of about 3 to 5 degree Celsius. Several other areas in interior Tamil Nadu recorded a spike of about 1.6 to 3 degree Celsius. For next 48 hours, the State is likely to witness a dry weather, the bulletin said.

In Chennai, the maximum temperature in Nungambakkam was recorded at 31.4 degree Celsius on Thursday, while Meenambakkam recorded 32.4 degree Celsius. The minimum temperatures recorded at Nungambakkam and Meenambakkam were 22.3 degree Celsius and 21.8 degree Celsius respectively. For the next 48 hours, the weather is likely to be clear in the city.

While mist is likely to occur in some areas during early morning hours, the maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to be around 31 degree Celsius and 22 degree Celsius respectively.
