The stolen jewels – four rings and a chain – were seized from the accused, identified as Rehana Farnisha of Royapuram. She was remanded in judicial custody. The incident happened on Tuesday evening at Thana Nila jewellery on Krishnappakula Street. Rehana reached the shop on a two-wheeler, bought a two-gram ring. When she paid Rs 8,000 for the ring, the owner B Madhavan (38) turned to take balance sum. Using the opportunity, she quickly stole the jewels.

However, Madhavan realised that some of the jewels were missing after Rehana left, and combed the CCTV footage.

It confirmed that it was his customer who stole them. Based on his complaint, the police traced Rehana using her two-wheeler’s registration number and arrested her.
