TNPSC Group 2A scam: 2 rank holders held for ‘fraud’
Two rank holders, including a woman, were arrested for alleged fraud in Group 2A exam conducted by the Tamil Nadu Public Service Commission (TNPSC).

The arrested persons have been identified as K Velmurugan (30) of Sivaganga district, who secured eighth rank in 2017 Group 2A exam, and K Jayarani (30) of Srivilliputhur, who secured 21st rank. While Velmurugan had been posted as an assistant at the district Registrar’s office in Karaikudi, Jayarani was posted at the district registrar’s office in Tirunelveli.
Both attended the exam at the centre in Rameswaram. The investigators suspect that 42 candidates have cleared the exam in a fraudulent manner. Velmurugan’s brother Sithandi, a policeman who is said to be the main accused behind the scam, remains at large, said CB-CID officials.
Jayarani’s husband Muthu is also a policeman. Jayakumar, said to be the main accused in Group 4 exam scam, is also absconding. The officials had seized 60 varieties of pens, a laptop and a pen drive, apart from a few documents from hishouse in Mogappair.
