The owner of the house, Gopala Krishnan (63) from Paramanur village near Maraimalai Nagar, is a retired Central government staff and his wife is a bank employee. Both of them are visually challenged.
The police said that the couple had gone to their native in Cuddalore two weeks ago to attend a function. On Monday morning, when they returned home with their son, the front door of the house was broken open. When they checked inside the house, all the doors and lockers were opened, including the pooja room.
The police said that the robbers looted the gold and cash in the house along with a few silver items, mobile phones and hundiyal from the pooja room. The police added that the burglars had spent some time in the house and cooked in the kitchen.
The Maraimalai Nagar police are investigating the case and trying to identify the robbers with the help of a sniffer dog. The police said that the robbers used a crowbar, which the owners had kept inside the compound, to break open the main door.
