4 burglaries reported near Korattur, no arrests yet

In the latest incident, A Rajasekar (67), a retired bank manager and resident of Kolathur, had gone to his daughter’s house in Anna Nagar on Wednesday when the incident happened. When he returned home on Thursday morning, he found his house broken open and Rs 2.5 lakh in cash, gold and diamond jewels missing. Based on his complaint, the Rajamangalam police registered case.

In another incident, Venkatraman (64), a retired employee residing at Annai Nagar, Korattur, had gone to Delhi to attend a wedding with his family members when the burglars struck his house.

On Wednesday, his neighbours found his house broken open and the car parked on the premises missing. They alerted Venkatraman about the incident, who reached the city and lodged a complaint at the Korattur police station.

Similarly, an IIT professor has also lodged a complaint that four sovereigns and Rs 20,000 and other electronic products have been stolen from his house in Korattur. Gowtham said that the incident happened when he was out of town with his family members. Meanwhile, a temple hundi in Korattur was also broken open and about Rs 5,000 was reported stolen. Three separate cases have been registered about the burglary incidents.

This is the third series of burglaries reported in Korattur and Rajamangalam areas in the past few days. No arrests have been made yet.

In another incident reported in Egmore, 50 sovereigns and Rs 2 lakh have been stolen from a businessman’s house and the police have detained one of the housemaids and her husband for interrogation. The victim, Kalyan Kumar, is a businessman and resident of an apartment on Casa Major Road. His aged parents stay at the house alone, while he is working abroad. Since their housemaids Lokanayaki and Shalini stopped coming to work recently, a complaint has been lodged raising suspicion on them. The police said that the valuables were stolen using duplicate keys and added that Shalini’s husband might have prepared the keys to aide the loot. Both of them have been detained for interrogation.
