The Revenue Department officials, on Friday, sealed three shops in Teynampet zone. “Immediately after we locked one of the three shops, the shop owner applied for the trade license and paid charges. So, we opened the premises. However, the other two shops are still locked as the owners have not yet applied for the license,” an official said.
The official said that 120 shops were found functioning without trade licenses in Teynampet zone and notices were issued to all shop owners. The sealed shops were functioning on Dr Besant Road and Royapettah High Road.
“Of the 60 shops we issued notices to, 57 shop owners applied for the licenses and the three shops that we sealed delayed the application,” the official added.
On January 29, the Chennai Corporation issued a warning to the shop owners to apply for the license within seven days to avoid action.
